Techcrunch: Friendster Partners With Intelius. Let The Scams Begin.

I knew the glory days of Friendster were behind them, but I didn't know things were this bad. The company is proudly announcing a partnership with Washington based people search company Intelius this evening. The goal, they say, is "to provide a more robust and comprehensive user search experience on Friendster and to power people searches originating on Friendster with results from across the web." What Friendster isn't saying is how they'll monetize this search, and whether Intelius' scammy privacy services will be offered to Friendster users. Earlier this year we wrote again about Intelius and the myriad of lawsuits and consumer complaints that the company was fighting. To summarize those posts, Intelius has been accused of tricking users into long term credit card subscriptions via a third party for worthless privacy protection products.

Techcrunch: AP Claims Shepard Fairey Admits To Lying And Trying To Destroy Evidence; His Counsel Quits

The AP has just released a statement declaring that Shepard Fairey, the artist being accused of copyright infringement for his iconic 'Hope' poster that became ubiquitous during the Obama campaign, has "admitted to the AP that he fabricated and attempted to destroy other evidence in an effort to bolster his fair use case and cover up his previous lies and omissions.". According to the statement, Fairey has also admitted to using a close-up of Presdient Obama that was taken by the AP as the model for his image, not a different photo that he claimed to use that also included George Clooney, which he later cropped. The statement also says that Fairey's legal counsel "now admitted that Fairey tried to destroy documents that would have revealed which image he actually used" and that "he created fake documents as part of his effort to conceal which photo was the source image, including hard copy printouts of an altered version of the Clooney Photo and fake stencil patterns of the Hope and Progress posters." Finally, the AP notes that Shepard Fairey's lawyers are withdrawing from the case.

Techcrunch: Poll: One In Three Canadians Are Sane (Hand Shake Story)

They say going to war without Canada is like going deer hunting without an accordion (ok, they actually say that about the French, but whatever). And we've had repeated run-ins with our frozen neighbor to the north in the past (see here, here, here). So you'd think the Canadians wouldn't be our first choice of allies in our war against the hand shake.). But they also say the enemy of your enemy is your friend. And so, by that crazy logic, I am now friends with Canada. Or at least, one in three Canadians. Because they've joined us, CNN, the Dalai Lama, the Obamas, the Boston Globe and some random town in Germany in our fight against the dreaded, disease spreading hand shake. From The Globe And Mail, which writes that one in three Canadians won't shake hands due to flu concerns:

Flixster, a social networking site for movie fans, is doing pretty well for itself in the mobile space. Double yeps. Earlier today, the company shared with us the news that they'd crossed over a fairly monumental landmark, along with the details surrounding updates for their apps on both Android and BlackBerry OS.
