Dear anonymous buyer of the $3,164,000 iPhone 3GS Supreme, the most expensive and tacky cellphone in the world: You are a tasteless assclown. Sincerely, Me. P.S. I don't care that you are a rich...

Could be something, could be nothing, but an "iPhone3,1" mysteriously popped up in the usage records of a Bay Area App Store developer. If you'll remember, the "iPhone2,1" turned out to be the 3GS....

For some of us, amid all the hubbub about
revolutions and whatnot yesterday, the most significant announcement on hand was
Apple's supposedly custom A4 CPU. Alas, in the cold and brutal light of the morning after, we're hearing that it is in fact a system-on-a-chip driven by a
Cortex-A9 MPCore CPU "identical" to the one found inside
NVIDIA's Tegra 2, while besting the
iPhone 3GS significantly with its 1GHz speed and multicore architecture. The chip is composed of that Cortex barnburner, an integrated memory controller, and the Mali 50-series GPU, making it an all ARM affair -- though we still don't know how much Apple and
PA Semi did in terms of arranging and integrating those components within the silicon. While still not 100 percent confirmed, it would seem there were no revolutions on the iPad's processing front -- just a rebranded bit of well engineered hardware.
Apple's A4 is an ARM-based system-on-a-chip a la Tegra 2? originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 28 Jan 2010 04:44:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Well, it's a bit earlier than the invitation to the big launch event
suggested, but it looks like Virgin Mobile Canada is now officially part of the HSPA+ club, and it's now also selling a couple of new phones you might be interested in. Naturally, the network will give you coverage in line with the Bell network that Virgin is piggybacking on (encompassing 93% of Canadians), and you can expect the same download speeds of up to 21.6 megabits per second and upload speeds up to 5.76 -- in "ideal conditions," of course. As expected, the carrier is now also offering a number of new phones that take advantage of the network, not the least of which include the iPhone 3G and 3GS (in all the usual varieties), and the BlackBerry Bold 9700. Hit up the link below to check out the complete lineup, and Virgin's new smartphone plan offerings, which start at $50 per month
