In June, Dorian Cox, guitarist for UK indie rock back The Long Blondes, suffered a paralyzing stroke that made it impossible for him to play his instrument. The band was forced to call it quits. Now though, Cox is learning to use a SaeboFlex, a glove outfitted with springs and levers that helps stroke patients grasp objects and regain hand function. He hopes to someday pick up his instrument again. "My right arm and leg aren't really usable so I can't play guitar," Cox explained to the Telegraph. "That was a nightmare because it meant the band couldn't carry on and my livelihood had suddenly gone..." "I know things might never be the same again and nobody can give me a definite answer about whether I'll play guitar again but I'm getting back on track," Cox said. "Long Blondes guitarist Dorian Cox back on track with 'bionic hand'" (Thanks, Gil Kaufman!)...

This Lockable USB Drive Concept Is Straight Out of a High School Nightmare [Concept]

Even if this lockable USB drive concept is turned into a real product, I won't be buying it. I barely mastered my locker's combination lock by the time I graduated high school, why would I want to repeat that nightmare?

Named after Mr. Gates, Bill's USB is a clever concept and wonderful for security nuts who don't have an irrational fear of combination locks. Twist-spin-turn-click and you can access your data. Or you can start hitting your head against your desk because you forgot if it's left-right-left or right-left-right. [Yanko Design]

Boing Boing: The Student Loan Scheme: gateway drug to debt slavery

Information designer Jess Bachman has a new piece out which isn't so much an info-graphic as a graphic article. Jess explains: It deals with the nightmare that has become student loans. Default rates on student loans are worse than sub-prime mortgages, and the total debt is bigger than all our credit card debts combined. It's a huge issue than many people are keeping quiet about. College students are a hugely under-represented and unadvocated group in Washington, and what we and the government are doing to them is just wrong.
